MARGAO: The construction work of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) in respect of a government primary school at Ambajim-Fatorda was issued a stop work order by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday.
The show cause notice and stop work order was issued by MMC and the work was ordered to be stopped by MMC Chief Office Y B Tavde. Hearing in this regard has been fixed on July 14.
It may be noted that objections were raised against the project after the construction encroached on the Ambajim ODP road and was found that it did not have permissions from the SGPDA and Margao Municipality.
GSIDC has erected nine RCC columns behind the school. The Margao Municipality has given 15 days to GSIDC to prove why action to demolish or seal the alleged illegal work should not be undertaken under the provisions of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
The work was undertaken by GSIDC under the schools development plan of restoring, renovating and repairing of all primary schools in Goa. The complainant Manuel Vaz initially feared that encroachment on Ambajim ODP road could hamper the development of the Ambajim ward.
