MARGAO: Mystery still shrouds the survey conducted by the Margao Municipal Council on the status of the municipal markets, with information revealing that the survey report is kept under wraps.
When Herald contacted MMC market Committee Chairperson Pratima Coutinho to throw light on the status of market survey, she pointed out that the survey report has not been placed either at the meeting of the market committee or the Council.
“My inquiries have revealed that the market survey report was not placed either before the market panel or the Council. When I inquired with the Chief Officer Deepali Naik, she said that no follow up on the report could be done by the Civic body till date”, Pratima said.
When the survey of the New market and Gandhi market was launched by the Civic body, there were hopes that the municipality will finally crack a whip against the stalls which has either encroached or extended the plinth area illegally. The fact that the civic body had video filmed the entire exercise had further given hopes that the Municipality will use the evidence to crack a whip against the illegalities, but in vain.
MMC Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar was not available for comment as he has proceeded on leave.
