MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council is supposed to hold yet another meeting with PWD Engineers to get clear technical direction in the installation of the Fire Safety overhead tank in Gandhi Market. The meeting has been scheduled on Monday and will be attended by all the stakeholders.
According to the present plan, the tank size and capacity has been reduced to around 80 thousand litres of water from the previous 1 lakh litres. The MMC in association with the Bazaarkaar’s have decided the area of the tank to be in an open land in Gandhi Market.
The MMC chairperson along with the Bazaarkaar’s, PWD and Water Supply Department Officials held the meet to primarily decide the site and process of having a water tank built in Gandhi Market.
It was observed at the meet that the land opted for is much less for the discussed capacity of 1 lakh litres. Hence, it was decided that the tank will be smaller so that it fits the area. The tank which was previously proposed was at the Old Fish Market area. However, it is learnt that the MMC has yet again started thinking on the lines of developing the old fish market for parking resulting in all the planning going in vain. The new site is now subject to technical approvals from PWD.
“70 to 80 thousand litres of water makes 7 fire tenders and that’s a good enough capacity. We suggested for getting the tank closer to the market as there shouldn’t be a time lag in case of emergencies,” said Vinod Shirodkar.
