MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) at its special council meeting on Tuesday has decided to outsource the stallage for the upcoming Holy Spirit Church feast. The MMC has conceived the idea after realising its entire workforce is diverted to the fair for installing these stalls. However, the sopo tax collection will be done by regular sopo collector.
The MMC discussed the stallage issue and decided to outsource the same.
Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudessai said, “We have realised that the entire work force of MMC is diverted to the feast fair for installing stalls. The workforce is employed to mark the installation of stalls and as such the entire MMC work gets paralysed during the 10 days.”
“There is lot of tension and a problematic situation arises at the stall area, etc”. Demands of the vendors are many and neither of them is happy. Hence, we decided to outsource the entire stallage and discussed the same with the municipal retainer and sought guidelines,” she informed.
“The retainer told us that this is possible. We have decided to get an average of the cost of last 5 years and increase the charges by 10 percent. We have also decided to levy service and luxury tax and work will be tendered soon,” she further informed.
“The area, which MMC plans to hold the fair, is not likely to be ready on time and hence the fair will be held at SGPDA ground and the bidder will have to bear the charges,” she added.
