MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has decided to permit the political parties or the individuals to put up banners as per the guidelines of the District Collector and that no one will be allowed to use the government property for the same.

MMC chairperson Lyndon Pereira took strong objection to the banners by political leader without permission. Speaking to media persons on Saturday he refuted the allegations made against him by the members of Shadow Council of Margao regarding the banners issue.

“The allegations against me and the civic body that we are not accepting the applications to put up temporary banners in the jurisdiction of the municipality are false. I had told the concerned members of the Shadow Council of Margao that the issue will be discussed with the Chief Officer, who was on leave”, he said.

He said after discussing the issue with the Additional Collector Surendra Naik, it has been decided to allow the political parties or the individuals to put up their banners after following the due process and nobody will be permitted to use the government property for the same.

“Yes, the civic body will follow the guidelines given by the district collector’s office and action will be taken against the violators”, he warned.

Lyndon said one of the members of the SCM, who had argued and made allegations against the civic body, was found to be violator by putting up the banner on the government property in Fatorda.
