MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) at a meeting on Wednesday has decided to seal its dilapidated old office building and hand over the same to Art and Cultural Department for undertaking repair work to set up the district library there.
Raising the incident of the recent collapse of an old building near the old municipal building, councillors at the meeting asked MMC Chairman Ryan Braganza to initiate action in regards to the other buildings in Mapusa which are in dilapidated condition and posing danger to human live.
The old municipality building houses the Red Cross office and a library.
“We have appealed to the Red Cross to move out from there, but they are refusing to do so. Hence the only way out is to seal the building. The rear side of the building is in bad shape and in need of urgent repairs works to be carried out,” Braganza said .
