MARGAO: In a joint meeting held at the Margao Municipal Council with the Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, the civic body has approved the setting up of CCTV monitoring at the Sonsoddo gate. MMC has also decided to disconnect power and water connection of housing complexes if they fail to give segregated waste and also fail to get connected on the sewage line.
The MMC Chairperson Babita Angle, Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, MMC Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik and concerned MMC Officials held a discussion on the issues surrounding the garbage and Sonsoddo dump.
Babita revealed that housing complexes have failed to give segregated waste to the MMC collection agent. “We are giving the last warning to the housing complexes to give segregated waste and get connected to sewage line otherwise we will not hesitate to disconnect power and water connection” warned Babita.
Babita also said that the MMC has consulted the Goa State Pollution Control Board about covering the dump during this monsoon period.
The Curtorim MLA conveyed his decision to visit the Sonsoddo dump daily to make sure the problem is resolved soon. “I want to put pressure on MMC as well as help them to solve the problem of Sonsoddo and garbage soon. Our problem won’t be resolved until all the processes are completed,” he said adding that he will visit the municipality every second day.
The MMC has also decided to have CCTV installed at the Sonsoddo gate to monitor all the movement at the site.
