MARGAO: Despite fact the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) had pulled up the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for granting a waiver of Rs 32 lakh to the sopo contractor, no decision has been taken yet on this issue.
On Friday, Convenor of Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) Savio Coutinho, filed another complaint with the MMC asking that the outstanding fees of Rs 32 lakh be recovered by the MMC.
The SCM is the complainant in the matter before the DMA, which had informed the MMC that the council cannot grant a waiver and that the councillors had to re-examine the issues.
On the other hand, the group of vendors who had placed their bid for the new sopo contract and had deposited Rs 1.9 lakh for the said bid, are upset at the MMC for failing to give them any clarity on the tender process for the new sopo contract.
Last month, these vendors led by Milagres Ferandes had met the MMC Chief Officer (CO) and asked that a separate tender be floated for May 15 feast in Margao given that the fair that is associated with feast and sale of mangoes in May is where the sopo contractor can earn the most revenue.
The vendors alleged that the MMC had deliberately allowed the old sopo contractor to continue for three months after his contract had expired, to take advantage of the fair and sale of mangoes.
