MARGAO: Margao municipal sanitation workers who fail to clear garbage will face stern action, including deduction of salary, Chief Officer Deepali Naik has warned.
The warning was issued at an emergency meeting convened by the chief officer after she received numerous complaints from residents that garbage is not being cleared on time.
All wards of Margao have been stinking of uncollected garbage by the road sides and dustbins after the Municipal labourers failed to collect the garbage on time.
The chief officer has been told that the MMC workers’ union leader has advised the workers to work only for two hours a day. “The Municipal workers have to compulsorily work for 8 hours a day and this directive of two hours is highly condemnable,” MMC chief officer said.
“I have warned all the labourers that I shouldn’t receive even a single complaint regarding garbage collection from Margao or else they will face strict action,” said Deepali Naik.
The chief officer has also warned the employees that she would accept no excuse on failure to collect garbage.
Besides the chief officer, Chairperson Babita Naik, Vice Chairperson Dorris Texeira and the 75-odd staff of the sanitation section attended the meeting, on Wednesday.
