VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) workers staged dharna on Monday over the non-payment of their salary for the month of July.
The strike is likely to continue as the workers’ demand to clear their salary and other dues were not resolved by the Chief Officer.
The agitated workers expressed unhappiness as their demands were not met by the MMC on Monday. Some workers informed reporters that they had been facing salary delays for the last 8 months. If salaries are not deposited, the workers have threatened to go on a strike on every 1st of each month beginning next month the without serving any notice.
Sources informed that on Monday some workers met Chief Officer Arvind Bugde and enquired about their salary. The Chief Officer reportedly sought ten days to sort out the payment issue.
