VASCO: A 25-meter long compound wall of the Mormugao garbage treatment plant at Headland Sada that collapsed a month ago is yet to be rebuilt.
After the compound wall came down crashing, MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik issued direction to the municipal engineers to prepare an estimate not only for the collapsed portion but for another 90-odd running meters of compound wall which have become weak and might collapse any time.
Sources at the MMC claim that though the estimates to rebuild about 90 meters long compound wall has already been prepared, senior municipal officials have held back the estimate file after deciding to engage a consultant to prepare a fresh estimates.
When contacted, MMC officials said that the height of the compound wall has become an issue in the estimate, leading to the delay in rebuilding the same.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik acknowledged that there has been some administrative delay in taking up the repair/ rebuilding work. He, however, assured that the same would be given due priority and the work would kick start shortly. “Though there has been some delay in taking up repairs, we have decided to temporarily cover the area using metal sheets. And once the approval is received (on the estimate) the work would start on war footing.”
