MARGAO: Unattended garbage dumped by the roadside at several places in the jurisdiction of Margao Municipality has created a major nuisance in the locality, and hence the locals have expressed anger over the handling of waste management by the civic body.
Garbage by the roadside at Ring Road, besides near the old Hari Mandir Temple, Colmorodd, eastern bypass road, Gogol; near South Goa Planning and Development Authority market, etc are the few areas which have become an eyesore for many. Now, people are complaining about nuisance, and fearing major health hazards.
At the old Hari Mandir Temple, garbage including some concrete materials was dumped by the unknown.
Locals residing close by fear that if somebody set on fire the waste, it will lead to a major issue, due to a transformer located nearby.
Speaking to Herald, Ravi Borkar expressed anger over the issue and urged the civic body to clear the waste at the earliest.
“Waste in large scale has been noticed over here for the last many days, and the workers of the municipality failed to clear that waste. We have witnessed people dumping their bags of waste over here during the night time,” he informed.
The pathetic situation at the Ring Road near the powerhouse is another area wherein garbage is noticed dumped in huge quantities.
It is pertinent to note that a day before a fire incident was reported at the Ring Road, wherein waste was set on fire by the unknown. Many suspect that the workers engaged by the civic body are involved.
It is shocking to note that even garbage is noticed accumulated on the footpath in front of the Margao Konkan Railway Station.
Accumulated garbage is also noticed lying scattered and littered in the Colmorod and Calconda wards of Margao Municipality many times. Garbage is also being burnt leading to major air pollution in the locality.
Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Lyndon Pereira said that they are working hard in order to resolve the issue pertaining to dumping of waste by the roadside, and also of black spots.
“We will inspect the areas and instructions will be given to clear the garbage from the roadside, and wherever lying accumulated,” he assured.
