Aspecial joint review meeting with the Vasco MLA, Deputy Collector and MMC Chief Officer and staff was held in Ravindra Bhavan, Baina on Thursday to discuss and to implement certain methods to sort out garbage collection, recovery of revenue and other issues of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC). Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida convened the meeting, which also saw the attendance of garbage contractors, supervisors and outgoing councillors to discuss the issues faced for the garbage menace. To rectify these issues and loopholes, a time frame of one month has been given. Almeida also discussed the issue of financial crunch; break down of vehicles; shortage of staff etc during this meeting. The MLA also stressed on the need to recover dues and other taxes from the shops, which will generate considerable revenue. Chief Officer Santosh Kundaikar assured that he will discuss these issues with the garbage supervisors and added that with the help of Administrator, he will take up recovery matter after the re-assessment of house tax is done.
