MMC’s single-window kiosk has no good response

MARGAO: The avowed objective behind opening this single-window kiosk in the lobby of the Margao Municipal building was to expedite issuance of construction licenses within 10 days.

But, in a sheer irony, the kiosk manned by a lone Municipal employee has hardly found any takers with the kiosk receiving no application for a construction licence since it was set up a week ago.
The no response to the single-window system from the general public has raised questions in the corridors of the civic body, whether vested interests are at work to keep the people away till the transfer of incumbent Chief Officer Naveen S L from the civic body.
In fact, the Chief Officer, who is the brain behind the single-window kiosk, says the whole idea of setting up of the kiosk, is to do away with the bureaucratic delays in the Municipal technical sanction, which had come under the scanner of the general public. “I am surprised to know that the kiosk has received a lone application for construction license, which was granted within the stipulated 10 days time frame”, Naveen said, while seeking to know in a lighter vein whether vested interests in the civic body are keeping the citizens away from using the services of the single-window kiosk till his transfer from the civic body.
Making a plea to the general public to take advantage of the single-window kiosk construction licence within the 10-day time frame provided all the documents are in order, Naveen said that his office has already issued one licence within the 10-day time frame. “The people of Margao should know that they need not approach any vested interests to get their work done.”
