Mobile addiction almost cost youth his life

22-year-old Govind from Ponda falls in well while trying to prevent his phone falling in it

PONDA: Mobile phone addiction almost proved fatal for a youth in Daag, Ponda, who lost his balance and fell into a well while trying to prevent his mobile phone from falling in it, which slipped out from his hand.

However he was saved by the fire brigade in a prompt response to a distress call. Ponda Fire Station in-charge Sushil Morajkar said, “We immediately rushed to the spot and saved the youth. He lost his balance while trying to catch the mobile phone, which slipped from his hand.”

The incident took place today around at around 5.30 pm when the 22-year-old youth, Govind Kashyap was sitting on the retaining wall of well located near his rented room at Daag Ponda and was busy in talking on his mobile phone, which slipped from his hand.

Govind tried to catch the falling mobile, but lost balance in this effort and fell into the ten metre deep well, after which he cried out for help. He was neck-deep in the water.

Hearing his distress call, the locals called up the Fire Station. A Fire brigade team led by station in-charge Sushil Morajkar reached to spot within five minutes and using a ladder, the fire team rescued him. The large crowd gathered around the well heaved a sigh of relief as the youth escaped unhurt.
