PANJIM:  PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral on Monday said that the Mobile Application to detect potholes in the State will be launched soon.

Reacting to the directives by the High Court of Bombay at Goa mandating the PWD to fill potholes and repair the roads within the next four weeks, Cabral said, “The potholes detection and reporting app will be a permanent mechanism to make sure the roads are pothole-free. The mobile app that will allow the people to report the potholes will be inaugurated by Chief Minister probably in a week’s time”.

Cabral said that once people report a bad road, it will be the responsibility of the PWD asst engineers and jr engineers to repair it. “There will be a provision that if the engineers don’t repair the reported road then they will face memorandums, suspensions and termination as well”, he said adding that it is the job of the engineers to clear potholes and not of the government.

While hearing public interest litigation (suo motu), the High Court of Bombay at Goa last week directed the government departments concerned to ensure that major roads in Goa are pothole-free within the next four weeks. The matter has been fixed for the next hearing on November 14.
