Mobor-Cavelossim locals urge govt to protect seashore

MARGAO: Expressing serious concern towards sand erosion in Mobor-Cavelossim, citizens and local representatives have urged the government to initiate measures to protect the seashore and the people residing near it.

Citizens have also informed that the retaining wall has also been badly damaged due to the rise in water level and such things have been witnessed every monsoon for the last few years.

It is pertinent to note that a few days before Colva, Benaulim and Utorda, besides several other beaches had witnessed rise in sea water resulting in sand erosion.

Speaking to reporters Dixon Vas, Sarpanch of Cavelossim Village panchayat, along with local panch member Jesus D’Costa requested the government to take the issue seriously.

The monsoon is yet to start in Goa, but the rise in water level and high current of water has caused major sand erosion in Mobor, at the meeting point of sea and river. We have raised the issue for the last several years, he stated.
