MARGAO: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has said that the Model Margao panel will select the councillor for the vacant post of Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) by Wednesday.
Speaking to Herald, Digambar informed that he will call a meeting of councillors of the Model Margao panel on Tuesday or Wednesday. He further said that he has consulted a few of the councillors in order to decide on the new chairperson.
He said “Yes, I have discussed the selection of the councillor from the Model Margao panel to take the charge of the Chairperson post. Many of the councillors of my panel met me during the Ganesh festival and I have heard their views. I will hold a meeting of my councillors on Tuesday or by Wednesday and the name of the councillor will be finalized.”
There are rumours that two councillors from the panel, Damodar Shirodkar and Sagun alias Dada Naik have expressed their readiness to take the charge if the opportunity is given to them. However, the decision maker will be the Margao MLA, who is yet to take a final call.
Meanwhile, Dipali Sawal, Vice-Chairperson said that she had already expressed her views before the MLA and she will accept whatever decision is taken by his mentor.
“Yes, I will submit my resignation from the post of vice-chairperson as soon as the name of the councillors for the post of chairperson is finalized,” she informed.
