Moira Comunidade raises banner of protest

"We are unable to permit you to build jetties on our bandhs or bandharas next to the rivers, upsetting the fishing activity of our village"

MAPUSA: In the letter to the Director of Tourism, president of Comunidade de Moira, Rui Da Gama stated that based on the personal opinion of many of the Gaunkars of Comunidade of Moira, the managing committee has passed a resolution strongly objecting to the draft jetty policy.

He wrote, “We wish to inform you that we are unable to permit you to build jetties on our bandhs or bandharas next to the rivers, upsetting the fishing activity of our villagers, disturbing our peace when tourists flock in our Moira village creating noise pollution, throwing garbage around, tourist touts and agents roaming in our village, drunkards, drug peddling, human trafficking for prostitution, other forms of crime, which will disturb our culture and risk the life of our children in our own village.”
