Moira locals irked over power cables laying work

MAPUSA: Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo inspected on-going work of laying of underground 33KV power cable along the main road from Bastora to Nachinola after villagers complained of convenience caused to daily commuters especially motorists due to the bad road conditions. 

Ticlo along with PWD Engineer Satyendra Bhobe, contractor and former Bastora sarpanch Savio Martin inspected the affected road stretch in the Moira village and identified around 700 metres area, which is most affected, so that the work can be taken up on priority basis for the safety of commuters.

Later, the MLA assured to take up the matter with the PWD Department.

The villagers said that in last few weeks, work of lying 33 KV power cabling was undertaken by the Electricity Department in Moira and Nachinola villages as a result around half of the surface of Major District Road is dug up. However, the repair work has not been taken up resulting in bad road conditions, which is posing danger to the commuters.

Further, the locals added that the dust caused due to the bad roads is also affecting the houses situated by the road side.

Aldona MLA said, “The villagers have been complaining of dust entering into their houses. Besides this, there are also safety issues for daily commuters especially the motorists. The locals have demanded that the road should be asphalted so that inconveniences can be reduced. One this issue, a file has been already moved and I am following up with the department so that the work can be completed as soon as possible.”
