Molcornem residents bitter about power cuts for 10 days

Power shutdown arranged from 9 am to 5 pm to replace old lines, says Department

SANGUEM: The residents of Devlamoll ward of Molcornem Panchayat have bitterly complained of no power supply in the village since last over ten days from 9 am to 5 pm.
Villagers said that the power supply in the village is cut during the day as the department is in the process of laying cables in place of the existing alluminium wires.
Inquiries revealed that old alluminium were snapping off frequently causing disruption of power supply, the department is in the process of replacing the old alluminium cables with fiber cables.
Incidentally, to facilitate early completion of the work of laying cables, the power supply in the village is cut during the day time.
Irked over the present arrangement made by the department, the villagers however have urged for alternate arrangements for power supply or in the alternative to undertake the work of laying cables only in the morning session and restore power supply in the afternoon session.
A villager Josinho D’Costa informed that due to the disconnection of power supply throughout the day, the villagers are made to face severe problems and are also unable to do any work during the day time.
Meanwhile, the power supply problem in the village have also affected agricultural water supply being supplied by the Water Resources Department from the water supply scheme at Zanodem.
On account of power supply problems, the department officials are not in a position to operate the water pumps and supply water for agriculture.
D’Costa informed that the restoration of power supply in the afternoon hours will also assist in the regulation of agricultural water supply in the village to a great extent thereby helping the villagers to undertake smooth and timely operation of the agricultural works.
