Molester PE teacher taken to IPHB for mental health check

JMFC, Quepem, records statements of four more girl students

MARGAO:  Ramesh Gaonkar, the physical education teacher at a government high school in Paddi, who stands accused of molesting a minor student, was taken to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) in Bambolim for a medical evaluation.

Head Constable Vinod Kankonker accompanied the teacher to IPHB. The authorities are now awaiting the results of this examination. Cuncolim police clarified that this medical assessment was part of a routine procedure to ascertain the teacher’s mental condition.

In a separate development, Cuncolim police has submitted a request to the Directorate of Sports, seeking information about Gaonkar’s antecedents, as there have been allegations that the 45-year-old PE teacher was involved in similar crimes in Ambaulim and Malkernem as well.

There are also allegations that Gaonkar had inappropriately touched four more students. In light of these claims, Quepem police, in collaboration with an NGO, escorted four female students to Quepem, where they were presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) to record their statements under Section 164 of the CrPC.
