Mollem locals for action against illegal laterite stones extraction

PONDA: The Borkotem-Mollem locals on Tuesday demanded the government to take action against the people involved in extracting laterite stones from an illegal stone quarry operating at Borkotem-Mollem.

The locals of Borkotem-Mollem in a written complaint to the Mollem Panchayat, Dharbandora Deputy Collector, South Goa Collector and Director of Mines and Geology stated that some unknown people are extracting laterite stones on a massive scale from an illegal stone quarry operating at Borkotem-Mollem and demanded urgent action against them.

A local, Budo Gaonkar stated that past many days massive laterite stone extraction work is carried out by using earth moving machinery such as bulldozer, JCB excavator, power cutter and huge quantity of laterite stones are extracted  every day.

Gaonkar said that some people are also extracting laterite stones from his property situated at Borkotem-Mollem in Dharbandora taluka during his absence. He mentioned that since no authorities are taking action, the illegal activities are flourishing, which causes huge revenue loss to the State government.

The complaint copies are also forwarded to Collem Police Station, Mamlatdar of Dharbandora and Mollem Panchayat Secretary for quick action against the people involved in the illegalities.
