PONDA: Residents from Sonaulim and Caranzol in Collem, coming under National Park Mollem, have threatened to stop tourism activities at Dudhasagar waterfall from Monday in protest against government’s alleged inaction to solve their long-pending demand.
According to information, about 12 families residing in Sonaulim and Caranzol claimed that since 2007, they have been requesting the authorities to issue them taxi permits to operate jeeps to ferry tourists from Collem to Dudhsagar waterfall.
“After waiting for several years, we have lost hope and protest is the only way we feel will see speedy action from the authorities,” stated a resident.
Residents further said that last month they had submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities regarding their intentions to stop tourism-related activities at Dudhsagar waterfall.
Residents claimed that the authorities have failed to act according to the laws and in protest they have threatened to stop tourism-related activities at Dudhsagar waterfall from Monday till their demands are met.
The Dudhsagar waterfall attracts thousands of foreign and Indian tourists every year. There are about 98 jeeps ferrying tourists from Collem to Dudhsagar, a distance of about 14 kms, through the wildlife sanctuary, that sometimes wild animals are spotted.
