Monica stakes claim for Fatorda seat
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, SEPT 29
Now, Goa Congress Mahila chief Monica Dias has staked claim for the party ticket to contest the Assembly polls from Fatorda constituency.
And, Dias requested the All India Congress Mahila chief Dr Prabha Thakur to give party tickets to women in both North and South Goa districts.
Addressing a mahila function here this evening which was attended by Thakur, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar, Dias said she is entitled for the party ticket to contest the Assembly polls given here long stint in politics and seniority in the party organisation.
“I have been a Municipal Councillor, besides a grass-root worker of the party. Certainly, I am interested in contesting the polls if given ticket by the party leadership”, she said.
Interestingly, Dias had claimed ticket for herself as well as two tickets each for women in both the districts in the last elections, but in vain.
She, however, said that she would not leave the party if the ticket is not given to her and would work for the party as its loyal soldier. “Last time too, I was not given the ticket, but I worked wholeheartedly for the Congress candidate in Fatorda”, she said.
Monica’s claim for the congress ticket in Fatorda is expected to trigger a race for the party ticket in the constituency. Already, GPCC general Vijay Sardessai, who lost the seat from Fatorda in the last Assembly polls, is making all out efforts to re-contest the polls from the same constituency.
There are reports that senior congress leader and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Luizinho Faleiro is not averse to contest the coming Assembly polls from Fatorda if the High Command asks him to do so. Though the former Chief Minister has so far declined to speak out his mind on contesting from Fatorda or Navelim, sources in the k now say the anti-Sardessai forces in Fatorda may rally behind the CWC member if the Congress high command tells him to contest the polls from the constituency.
