Monitoring panel in schools to supervise online-offline work

PANJIM: As teachers are allowed to work from home, the State government has directed schools to form a Monitoring Committee to supervise the online-offline educational work by collecting response from the students and parents. 

In a series of guidelines issued to educational institutions and teachers, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has said that while e-classes for secondary and higher secondary students shall not exceed two hours per day, no online session for primary students will be undertaken. 

In case of students, without device, the teachers are directed to facilitate such kids by providing worksheets and supplementary material, to ensure that there is no loss of studies. 

The Monitoring Committee for supervising the online-offline education will comprise of the head of the institute, management member, school management committee, PTA member and ADEI. Schools are also given freedom to appoint an educational expert on the committee. 

“Monitoring Committee will supervise the online-offline educational work bi-monthly by collecting the response from the students and parents,” Education Director Santosh Amonkar said in the circular. 

The teachers are directed to make full use of the online training undergone by them through State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to prepare original videos, notes, feedback forms, questionnaire, and assignments using different open educational resources (OERs). 

“Teachers should update themselves by undergoing asynchronous training through SCERT and other resources available online,” DoE said. 

The department said that study material like original videos, power point presentations, questionnaire forms should be used to teach the topic asynchronously (offline) and synchronous session (online) or virtual meets should be used to solve the difficulties on the topics which have been already dealt through videos. 

“The teachers should act as mentors to a child. It is expected that teacher shall remain in contact with a child on phone to know their difficulties or in case the students do not have android devices,” DoE said. 

It has asked teachers to encourage the older students to teach younger once in their vicinity. 

“Students without devices should be facilitated by providing worksheets and supplementary material,” it added. 

Apart from syllabus, the teachers are asked to share material on subjects such as personality development, mental stress management, career counselling, agriculture and other subjects on weekly basis. 

The heads of the school are directed to submit lessons of subject teachers to the department through Google Sheet.
