PANJIM: Revenue Minister Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate on Thursday demanded Vigilance inquiry into the recently hot-mixed roads in Panjim and Taleigao constituencies and which have been damaged in rains.
Monserrate said that he has written a letter to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant pointing out the sorry state of roads in the capital city and has demanded Vigilance inquiry into these works and to take the concerned PWD engineers to task.
According to Monserrate, all major roads in Panjim and Taleigao constituencies were hot-mixed just before Assembly elections and within few months are washed away in the rains resulting in potholes making it difficult for the motorists. The hot-mixed should last for a certain number of years and withstand rains, he added.
The Minister further said that though the contractor has to be blamed for shoddy road works, the concerned PWD engineer should also be blamed for certifying these works.
“I have written a letter to Chief Minister requesting him to inquire into the bad condition of hot-mixed roads by the PWD. I think the concerned engineers are responsible for poor quality of works and they should be taken to task,” he said.
