PANJIM: In what could be a possible setback for the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Vasco sexual assault case, the fingerprints and palm prints of Monty Sanchez do not match the recovered evidence from the crime scene by forensic experts last year.
Sources said that Monty, the nephew of Sharlet Furtado, the suspended headmistress of Deep Vihar School, where a minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified culprit on January 14, 2013, was summoned for investigation to the CBI office at Bambolim over a month ago.
“He has testified before the CBI sleuths. Besides, his fingerprints and palm prints were also taken for forensic examination. The two reports did not corroborate with each other,” an officer informed. The CBI had approached the Interpol and Indian Embassy to contact Monty since he lives in Dubai.
Reports suggest he had not come to India for nearly five years until he was summoned for investigation by CBI sleuths. The CBI that took over the investigation over a year ago on September 11, 2013, had claimed it had laid its hands on clinching evidence to nail the culprit, which was apparently overlooked by the previous investigating agencies – Vasco police station and Crime Branch.
