Mopa Airport handled over 30 lakh passengers in first year of its operation

PANJIM: The Manohar International Airport(MIA) at Mopa has handled over 30 lakh passengers since its inauguration on January 5 last year while, cargo terminal processed around 750 metric tonnes in the first 11 months of operation.

The new airport is now connected to 25 domestic and four international destinations. All domestic operated airlines are servicing at Mopa, international destinations are being served by four major airline operators. 

The number of domestic destinations connected to Goa has reached 29, up from 14 before MIA operations began. The ongoing Phase 3 Stage 1 expansion, aiming to reach approximately eight million passengers per annum, is set to be completed before the winter schedule of 2024. 

Since initiating cargo services in January 2023, MIA’s temperature-controlled cargo terminal has processed around 750 metric tonnes cargo, from pharmaceuticals to vegetables in the first 11 months of operation.

Recognising MIA’s excellence, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) ranked MIA among the top 15 airports in India in November last year, states a press release.
