He said that the initially envisaged project is very different from what is now going to be developed.
Explaining how the project has become a money spinner, Kamat said, “Firstly, in terms of the total land this has gone up from 1500 acres initially to 2271 acres today. Secondly, 381 acres of land will be given to the developer with a super FAR of 2.5, that is, 38,58,315 square meters of build-able area. Finally, Goa pays Rs 3.6 lakh per day to the developer in case of any delay in the project including in case of a court notice or stay.”
Stating that the compensation paid to the land losers is a meagre Rs 54.79 per square meter, Kamat asked, “Is this the reason why the BJP govt at the Center wants to amend the UPA piloted Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Act, 2013?”
“The 2.5 FAR land of 381 acres, at Rs 8000 per square meter, fetching Rs 3083 crore, will be given to the developer for free; and in contrast, the cost of developing the airport,” he said adding, “this is a massive profit for the airport developer.”
