PERNEM: The police station at the international airport at Mopa which is operational 24/7 has a stark difference in its appearance compared to the luxurious airport it safeguards.
The temporary building of the police station is surrounded by a dusty atmosphere and the roof is made up of iron sheets. With the ongoing heat wave which has made the beginning of the summer unbearable, the iron sheets add to the misery of the police staff.
“The dust is everywhere which is harmful to the health of police workers. They cannot even eat properly. Since the roof is made of iron sheets, they have to suffer even more. Police never complain about their situation to people but as Home Minister of the State, Dr Pramod Sawant should sit at this police station for just one hour in the afternoon,” said social activist Sanjay Barde.
“The government inaugurated the airport even though it was not fully complete. The government has provided a shed to the police as the temporary station. What was the need to inaugurate the airport when the police station’s building was yet to be ready?,” questioned Barde.
The station also does not have an air conditioning system and many times ceiling fans do not work either.
