PANJIM: After the ruling BJP attracted criticism for naming the new Mopa airport as ‘Manohar International Airport’, BJP national general secretary and Goa desk in-charge CT Ravi announced that the facility would be renamed as ‘Manohar Parrikar International Airport’.

Addressing media persons after chairing BJP core committee meeting in Panjim, Ravi also said that a picture of Manohar Parrikar would be put to display at the airport symbolizing that the airport is named after the ex Chief Minister.

“Your sentiments are also my sentiments…necessary changes will be done…Manohar means Manohar Parrikar only…even Prime Minister has said it,” Ravi said responding to the ongoing controversy surrounding naming of the airport.

“There should not be any dispute. Manohar Parrikar was a legendary leader and Mopa airport is named after him. It is our love towards him. It will be named as Manohar Parrikar international airport,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11 inaugurated the second international airport at Mopa and named it as ‘Manohar International Airport’. The Opposition however termed it as a ‘joke’ to name ‘Manohar International Airport’ instead of ‘Manohar Parrikar International Airport’. Even social media saw posts trending demanding that the airport should carry full name of Manohar Parrikar.

Meanwhile, with an eye on the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Ravi has asked party leaders in the coastal state to reach out to people and try to build a connect.
