PANJIM: The Directorate of Panchayat, Panjim on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of Mopa link road to March 25.
The hearing was adjourned as Director of Panchayat Siddhi Halarnkar had gone to attend a meeting with the Chief Secretary.
On February 28, the Director of Panchayat by an ex-parte order had stayed the stop work order issued by the Warkhand-Nagzar village panchayat to the contractors and fixed the matter for hearing on March 15. During the last hearing, the Warkhand-Nagzar village panchayat filed its reply and sought to vacate the ex-parte order staying the stop work order. However, the contractor Ashoka Buildcon Limited sought time to engage a lawyer to represent his case.
The construction of road work to the greefield Mopa airport is facing stiff opposition from villages of Tulaswadi, Dhargal, Warkhand and Nagzar through which the road is passing.
Later, speaking to media persons, the villagers from Mopa and Adv Prasad Shahpurkar demanded that the construction of new airport was a big threat and that it should be closed and land be reverted to poor farmers. They alleged that all land acquisition at Mopa was illegal and 90 per cent of villagers had not accepted the compensation.
The villagers claimed that there were many airports across the world where not a single flight had landed. Such type of airports ruined national economies, claimed the villagers.
