Mopa Police Intercept Illegally Transported Liquor Bound for Maharashtra

Mopa Police have confiscated a significant quantity of illegal liquor destined for Maharashtra. The seizure, carried out by the diligent team of Mopa Airport Police Station, took place in the early morning hours when a black Mahindra Scorpio, bearing registration number MH-07-Q-2424, was intercepted.

As per Senior Deputy Police Officer (SDPO) Pernem, Jivba Dalvi, the vehicle was stopped at 4 am on 16.02.2024, near Patradevi. The driver, identified as Rony Fernandes, a 45-year-old resident of Kankavli, Sindhudurg Maharashtra, engaged in rickshaw business, was en route from Patradevi to Kankavli via Banda Maharashtra.

Upon inspection, the police discovered liquor bottles inside the vehicle. Rony Fernandes was promptly asked to produce valid permits, documents, and an excise permit for the transportation of the liquor. The seized liquor, consisting of various brands, was valued at Rs. 56,400/- and measured a total of 191 litres.

The entire operation was led by Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar, with the supervision of SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi and Superintendent of Police North, Akshat Kaushal IPS. The confiscated liquor, along with the black Mahindra Scorpio, has been handed over to the Excise Department, Pernem Goa, for further legal action.
