PANJIM: Nationalist Congress Party on Monday came out in support of controversial Greenfield Mopa International airport claiming that the project is a must for development.
Speaking to media persons, NCP spokesman Trajano D’Mello said, “Mopa is not an immediate need but at the same time the airport is a must for development”.
“Don’t kill the project…it is required and…development is looking forward, not backward,” he said, but added that at the same time Dabolim must stay.
According to the NCP, Mopa should involve locals affected by the project and they should be compensated three to four times the value being currently offered, and that the government must not spend a single rupee more till this is done and should not hand over the land to any private parties.
The Mopa airport is facing flak from people of South Goa.
