PANJIM: The State government on Monday lifted the moratorium on rent-a-car services in the State with an affidavit filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
The State Transport Department is likely to take decision to permit rent-a-car services on December 26. The High Court also directed the State to follow the Central Government MV Act, rent-a-car association representatives told reporters.
The North Goa Rent-a-Car Association (NGRCA), a body of private vehicle owners, had approached the High Court last year on July 25, seeking directions to the government to grant them licences under the rent-a-cab scheme. The matter was pending for final verdict.
There are 136 rent-a-cars plying in the State, and over 1500 more were waiting for the moratorium to be lifted.
