PANJIM: The Administrative Reforms Department is examining the possibility of increasing the number of officers under the Goa Cadre. This was disclosed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to media after the Cabinet meeting.

“We are reviewing this and also studying if a DIG level officer can be considered under Goa cadre,” Parrikar said, but hastened to add that “No decision has been taken on this, and the matter is under review.”

The ARD deals with assessment of work under government departments, autonomous bodies and even corporations to either create or revive or the re-designation of posts. It also conducts reviews of staff requirements.

It may be recalled that the State government was involved in some confrontations with the Centre over the appointment of an IPS and IAS officers by the Union Home Ministry, with the Chief Minister rejecting the appointment of IPS officers by the Ministry. He had insisted that the State Government should be consulted before such appointments were made.
