PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Thursday disclosed that more political parties will join the pre-poll alliance of the MGP and the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) for the ensuing Assembly polls.

Speaking to reporters, Dhavalikar said that more political parties are eager to join the pre-poll alliance of MGP and TMC, which he added, has given an alternative to the people of Goa.

Alleging that the Sawant-led government has miserably failed on all fronts, he said that the voters of Goa now have a chance to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and bring back the past glory seen during the 17-year rule of the MGP.

Reiterating that he had predicted political turmoil in the State, Dhavalikar said that it is happening now with legislators quitting as MLAs and speculated that many more sitting BJP MLAs will leave the party ahead of the ensuing Assembly elections. He said that Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha’s resignation as MLA and from the primary membership BJP is the first one and many more will follow during the next fortnight.

The MGP leader said that his regional party will contest only 12 seats even if there could be few changes and support its alliance partners in other Assembly segments. He appealed to the Goan electorate to take appropriate decision and elect the MGP-TMC alliance.

When asked whether some of the sitting MLAs are eager to join the MGP, Dhavalikar claimed that even BJP’s core workers are keen to join the MGP. The party’s core committee will meet soon and a decision, he said.

Dhavalikar warned that even if the BJP try to poach their candidates, the MGP will win those constituencies.

Dhavalikar demanded Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the allegation made by Panjim MLA Babush Monserrate that there was Rs 70 crore recruitment scam in the PWD. This is more than Rs 64-crore Bofors pay-off, he said.

Dhavalikar blamed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for failing to initiate action against the Minister involved in sex scandal and added that the tainted Minister resigned only after the matter reached the Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai.
