More than 10 buildings declared unsafe

PANJIM: At least five high-rise buildings in Taleigao, four in Panjim and one each at Mapusa, Margao and Mormugao do not have adequate fire safety measures in place and as such, the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services has declared them unsafe.

In a reply tabled on the floor of the House, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar stated that 12 high rise buildings where fire protection measures were installed are now not functioning. “These buildings have been given directions to take remedial measures,” he said. 
The buildings identified are Citi Centre Premises Holders, Life Insurance Corporation of India – Divisional Office-cum-Investment building, Central Towers, Model Exotica – Blocks 5, 6 and 7; all situated in Panjim; Model Status – Blocks 2A, 2B, 3, 4A, 5A, 5B, 3 and 6, at Taleigao; Fortune Square at Mapusa, L&L Correia’s Pride – Building A located in Margao and Ahanti in Mormugao have been declared unsafe as they lacks fire safety provisions.
The department is conducting fire prevention inspections of various types of occupancies from the fire safety point of view such as government offices, schools, hospitals, high-rise buildings, public assembly buildings, etc, and adequate fire safety measures are being recommended to ensure the safety of public from possible fire incidents.
