More trouble for former Tivim Comunidade attorney

Cops book Savio Pereira for misappropriating Rs 15.50 lakh; now add Section 420 of IPC against him

PANJIM: The Colvale police have now added section 420 of IPC against former Comunidade of Tivim attorney Savio Pereira for allegedly misappropriating Rs 15.50 lakh.

Following a complaint by Douglas Sequeira of Madel-Tivim, the police had earlier on March 4, registered an FIR against Pereira under section 408 of IPC. However, Sequeira, a Gaunkar of the Comunidade followed up the matter case and saw that the section 420 of IPC was added to the case.

Sequeira had complained that Pereira had issued NOC to Keith Lewis and Gertie Lewis for access from the Comunidade property bearing survey No 345/1 of village Tivim without following due procedures and without obtaining approval from the government and collected Rs 15.50 lakh in cash.

But Pereira did not deposit the cash amount in the treasury of Comunidade of Tivim and allegedly misappropriated the fund for his personal use.

During the course of investigation, the police found that the accused had cheated the Comunidade of Tivim for the amount and hence section 420 of IPC was added to the crime.

PSI Rohan Madgaonkar is conducting further investigations under the guidance of Colvale PI Vijay Rane.

Last month, while hearing a criminal application filed by Sequeira, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Bicholim, had directed the Colvale police to register FIR under Sections 401, 406, 417 and 420 of IPC and start investigations. The JMFC had also asked the police to submit the report to the Court within a month.
