Moreno returns to Congress

MARGAO: Curtorim constituency former Zilla Panchayat member Moreno Rebello, who was with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for 20 days made a ‘Ghar Wapsi’ in the Congress on Friday.

Resigning from the BJP on Thursday, he had claimed that he was not sure of his next move. He apparently arrived at the decision over night to re-join the Congress party.  Along with him Simon Baretto, Deputy Sarpanch of Village Panchayat of Curtorim too joined Congress.  ZP member Michelle Rebello, Milagres Rodrigues, Sarpanch of Village panchayat Curtorim was also present at the ‘ghar wapsi’ function of Moreno held at Margao.

He was re-inducted into the party by Milgares Fernandes, Block President of Curtorim Congress, and Shivani Pagi, vice-president of South Goa District Congress Committee.

“On Thursday night GPCC President Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat had talks with me urging them to join the Congress party,” said Rebello.

He also said there is absolutely no deal in joining back to Congress, when asked by the media persons.

“I made a mistake by joining the BJP. However, I will contest in Curtorim constituency if a party offers me the ticket. But, tickets are not an important issue for me. My only intention is to strengthen the Congress party. I would have joined the Congress soon after former Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco left the party, if interested in the ticket,” said Rebello.

He further said that he will remain with the Congress in future.

Moreno said he will work hard for the candidate in Curtorim whoever party decides.

“There are still a large number of people supporting Congress not only in Curtorim but in the whole state. Only Congress can give good governance to the Goans,” said Rebello.
