Morjim gram sabha objects floating jetty, raise water shortage issue

PERNEM: The Morjim Village Panchayat gram sabha members raised strong objections to the floating jetty in River Chapora and assured that no floating jetty will be allowed in the sea.

In the last gram sabha, fishermen from the locality pointed out that a floating jetty is coming up in the river which is going to affect the fishing activity in the area. 

Responding to gram sabha, Deputy Sarpanch Pawan Morje said that the panchayat has strong objection to floating jetty and will not allow any floating jetty as Morjim to Ashwem stretch is a turtle nesting site. 

Further, fishermen raised concern over parking of their boats during off season. They said that due to construction, the traditional pathways going to the beach are blocked while there is no space to park their boats during the monsoon. 

Another issue that turned the gram sabha noisy  was the water issue. People complained that local panch members have failed to solve their problems. 

They said that from the last several months there has been acute water shortage in most parts of the village causing major inconvenience to the people especially housewives.

Gram sabha members also asked the panchayat to levy tax to commercial establishments as per their standards. 

The villagers also asked about the status of sewerage treatment plant project.
