Morjim locals set out on a novel idea, plant saplings in potholes

Claim their constant pleas to PWD to repair the potholed roads have fallen flat

PERNEM: Frustrated with the state of the roads in their village, Morjim residents resorted to a unique protest by planting saplings in all the potholes that plague most parts of the roads to draw the attention of the authorities to the urgent need for repairs

The residents claimed that their constant pleas to the PWD to repair the potholed roads have fallen on deaf ears. Left with no choice, they set out on a novel idea to draw the attention of the PWD, to their plight.

Irate locals highlighted the dangerous state of roads as youngsters had lost their lives. They have demanded that the PWD immediately repair the ‘deadly’ roads to prevent accidents.

Morjim local Albert Fernandes criticised the traffic police for focusing on fines instead of addressing the problems.

Fernandes said, “See the state of the roads, two boys fell in these potholes and they were injured. I want to ask the traffic police, why do they come to impose fines on the people in Morjim, can’t they see the gaping potholes and take videos? Do you want people to fall and break their bones? Even those locals, who give their vehicles on hire, suffer losses due to bad roads. If there is any roadside parking, the traffic police immediately fine vehicle users. Why can’t they see the potholes?”
