PERNEM: Morjim residents on Monday demanded the authorities should install speed breakers at the junction, near Hotel Sea Horse, failing which, they will block the road.
Villagers have given a five-day deadline to the local panchayat and MLA to look into the matter, since being a tourist destination, this junction near Hotel Sea Horse sees heavy traffic movement round-the-clock. With absence of speed breakers, major as well minor accidents occur almost daily.
Local villager Albert Fernandes said, “Every junction must have speed breakers, proper illumination and camera on dangerous turns, however, this particular junction does not have speed breakers installed. Is the government not even capable of installing speed breakers at the junction? People are dying due to over speeding,” Fernandes said.
“If the government department concerned, local panchayat or local MLA fail to install speed breakers at this junction in Morjim in next five days, then we will block the road,” Fernandes threatened.
