PERNEM: The road between Dabholkarwada and Gawdewada in Morjim village has become a death trap to the villagers, commuters and tourists as it has developed huge potholes.
The locals said that they are having nightmares as everyday one or two people fall prey to the potholes and sustain injuries.
“Several requests were made with the local panchayat as well as PWD to repair the potholes but they failed to act. One of the potholes is almost two months old and has a depth of almost one foot. This is the main road leading to Morjim and Ashwem Beach and remains busy with movement of vehicles throughout the day and night. Friday night, a young boy was injured after his scooter went into the pothole and he fell off. Similar on the previous day, three people were injured in separate incidents. It gets difficult for the people to ride in the night especially when it is raining as the potholes get filled with water and becomes difficult for the riders to understand the road surface. We request the concerned authorities to look this matter on urgent basis before someone loses his/her life because of these potholes,” Sonu Shetgaonkar, a resident said.
