PERNEM: Expressed their strong opposition to the two illegal constructions allegedly carried out in the premises of Our Lady of Miracles Church at Morjim, the parishioners accused the local panchayat of failing to control illegal constructions.
Raising their objections to the two illegal constructions allegedly being carried out by one Avinash D’Souza and Anil Shetgaonkar in Survey Numbers 96/7 and 96/8 in Morjim, the Parishioners claimed that both are located around church premises and are against the church sanctity.
Claiming that they had complained in with regards to the illegal constructions, they said after almost a month, the panchayat issued a stop work notice to concerned owners. They further alleged that instead of putting stop to ongoing work, the same, which is going on in full swing, is almost complete.
On Monday, sarpanch Vaishali Shetgaonkar, secretary and panchas along with the parishioners inspected the site owned by Shetgaonkar but failed to inspect the other site owned by D’Souza as he was not available.
The panchayat has decided to issue another notice to Avinash informing him about the next inspection and has vowed to initiate further action under police protection if he fails to attend. The parishioners have requested the panchayat to solve the issue immediately basis as these constructions are obstructing religious activities.
