Morjim P’yat waste mgmt panel resolves to keep village clean

PERNEM: The Waste Management Committee of Morjim Panchayat  resolved to make the area clean and beautiful while discussing on how to collect all types of waste in its jurisdiction.

 During the meeting, held under the chairmanship of Sarpanch Surekha Amit Shetgaonkar, the issue of providing the garbage collection workers with gloves and raincoats on priority was  discussed. Members of the committee also suggested that the workers’ issues be heard regularly and solved on priority.

Deputy Sarpanch Pawan Morje, panch members Vilas Morje, Mukesh Gadekar, Fatu Shetgaonkar, Mandar Poke, Rajani Shirodkar, Supriya Poke, members Nivrutti Shirodkar, Tukaram Shirodkar, Deepak Shetgaonkar, Amit Shetgaonkar was present during the meeting.

There are around 225 hotels, 275 kiosks, 1500 rented rooms, 50 restaurants in Morjim. While some rooms are made available only during the tourism season for tourists. Hence, it was decided to levy different charges to businesses and households. 

It was decided to collect Rs 200 from temporary rooms, Rs 5000 from shacks and restaurants, Rs 500 from households and rooms, Rs 3000 from fast food and juice centres, Rs 1500 from ayurvedic massage parlours, Rs 800 from bakery, Rs 300 from tea and coffee stalls, Rs100 from cold storages, Rs 1500 from supermarkets with vegetable shop, Rs 300 from supermarkets, wholesale wine store, Rs 500 from supermarkets with wine store,  Rs 100 from general stores, Rs 200 from pharmacies, hardware shops, temporary stalls, cloth shops, electrical and mobile shops, ice cream parlour, flower shop, garages, godowns, cement, steel, marble shop, aluminium shop, beauty parlour, stationery shop, banks, cake shops as garbage collection charges.

The members also demanded that the committee meet once a month to review the implementation of the decisions taken. They also requested to take the members along while doing surveys of hotels and restaurants.
