Morlem girl assaulted by laterite stone out of danger

VALPOI: The five-year-old daughter of a laterite mine labourer Anil Lamani, who was assaulted with a laterite stone, is stable. Miraculously, even as she had lost a lot of blood, and suffered grievous injuries, doctors at the Goa Medical College, Bambolim were able to stablise her and have declared her out of danger, on Wednesday.

“Although, the girl is in the Intensive Care Unit, she is expected to be moved out to the general ward, Valpoi Police Inspector Rahul Naik stated. The official medical report which was released on Wednesday, also stated that there was no genital intercourse,” the PI told O Heraldo.

The accused labourer Ramsevak Thakur who was described as ‘criminal psycho’ by Valpoi PI was produced before the JMFC Valpoi has been remanded to 7 days police custody.

In a ghastly incident, the 23 year-old labourer Thakur kidnapped the girl of his fellow labourer, took her to the hillside and smashed the head of the five year old with a stone, at Deulwada Morlem, Sattari. Police revealed that Thakur, fueled by alcohol and lacking any clear motive, committed the heinous act impulsively.

The harrowing incident unfolded when the parents of the girl left her at home sleeping while they went out with their son. Unfortunately, they left the door unlocked and this provided an opportunity for the accused to perpetrate the crime.

In a swift move, the police formed teams and started combing and search operations of the entire area. Many suspicious people were interrogated and out of them, one suspect who was a neighbour of the victim, confessed to the crime.

The accused Thakur was arrested under Sections 363 and 307 of the IPC and Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act.
