CORTALIM: The Mormugao Block Development Office (BDO), the agency dealing with populist schemes of the government, is facing acute manpower shortage for quite some time, thereby putting the existing staff under great stress.
Admitting that his office had been hit by manpower shortage, BDO Head Clerk Mahesh Nadkarni said: “At present, four staff members are either on leave or have been transferred on promotion. There have been no replacements made so far.”
“The peon has been sanctioned childcare leave, while the EOVP has been on long sick leave. Two clerks have been transferred on promotion,” Nadkarni added.
Another staff lamented that he has been forced to do the job of a peon, as he has to open and close the office and transport the office files.
“There are excess staff employees at the Directorate of Panchayats office and they could be transferred to Vasco in order to augment the manpower,” he said.
Admitting that his Vasco office has been facing staff shortage, BDO Mardolkar, who is holding additional charge of Mormugao BDO, said that no staff replacement has been made so far.
“I agree that the BDO offices have to handle a lot of work since they deals with 13 departments. I will communicate to my higher-ups soon,” Mardolkar told Herald.
The BDO offices have to deal with several schemes, including fisheries, social welfare, RDA, child and births statistics and other human issues like domestic violence etc.
