Mormugao civic body holds drive against abandoned vehicles in the port town

VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council’s drive against abandoned vehicles in the port town concluded on Saturday.  Overall, 59 vehicles including 50 two wheelers and nine four wheelers, together with two government vehicles were towed away clearing spaces for parking.

MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues’ presence during the drive was appreciated by Vascoites. Rodrigues assured to try his level best to ensure smooth flow of traffic with ample and disciplined parking in the city area.

The locals had raised concern over abandoned vehicles occupying parking areas, as the city is facing parking issues. Accordingly, owners of such abandoned vehicles were instructed to immediately move their vehicles. However, many vehicles were seen unattended prompting authorities to take action against them, said Rodrigues.

On the first two days of the drive, 15 vehicles and 35 two wheelers were towed away. Two government owned vehicles, including a jeep belonging to Mormugao BDO and car belonging to Mormugao PDA were also towed away. Necessary permission to tow away these vehicles was taken to ensure a smooth process.

Rodrigues thanked Vasco MLA Krishna (Daaji) Salkar for his valuable inputs. He also thanked his fellow councillors and PI traffic Shailesh Narvekar for their cooperation.
